Yassa Festival is a very famous summer event in Yugawara. The place resembles my family town in Poland. It’s a small town where people live slowly, just like my hometown Brodnica.
Street changed in a dance floor
Before the Festival started, people had started to prepare the sitting place along the street. They came there with blankets, mats and some foods to picnic over there. A long street decorated with pink lanterns changed to the big dancing floor. Students of schools and the representative of various institutions of the town had been presenting their own performances during the 1.5-hour parade. They had been wearing artistically stylized costumes and entertained viewers by dancing, singing and playing the instrument.
When the parade had finished, instead of going home, people came to watch the firework show. During the 30- minute spectacular show, we watched fireworks shooting up into the night sky above the Sagami Bay. Every firework seems to be the same, but even if the people had seen it earlier many times, it’s still worth seeing again.
Summary
Yassa Festival is really important event for the people of Yugawara. Like in every small town, they know each other very well. During the parade, people dance while shaking their hands and saying hello to their families and friends. If you want to enjoy the event with those friendly people of Yugawara, you ahould come on Yassa Festival next year!
