Amazing Grassland of Japanese Susuki at Sengokuhara
2014/11/13
I have been planing this trip for a long time.
Sengokuhara is a plateau famous for its beautiful Japanese Susuki land, the best season for Susuki viewing is in the middle of November. There was a broad Susuki grassland spread in front of me without a boundary. Mountains and valleys were fully covered with Susuki except few thin path, cars and tourists. I felt like dissolving in an endless grassland with eternity.
I left home early in the morning, the weather was great. First I took a trian to Hakone-Yumoto Station, then took a bus for Tougendai and got off at Sengoku-Kougen bus stop. The road toward the mountain top was wind, the more the bus climbed, the more colorful tree leaves became. It’s red leaf season again, I assume there will be a lot of tourists visit Hakone this year as usual.
I was stunned by the beautiful scenery as soon as I got off the bus. The whole land in front of me was dyed in a light yellow tint, countless Susukis sway toward same direction as the wind blows, the scene was just magnificent.
A small pathway was paved across the thick Susuki patch allows tourists to walk among the grassland, the more I walked up the pathway, the boarder the scenery became.
The pathway is not so long, people walk leisurely, enjoying the beautiful landscapes while taking photos. It was not a long journey to reach the top of the land. I want to walk more into the grass, but I already reached the end of the pathway, so I have to go back. Unfortunately I was visiting here alone, so I didn’t get anyone to take a photo of me.
A woman stood beside me told me that last year was more beautiful than this year, although I have no idea what was it like last year. I think beautiful scene always trigger good memories, like a love story you just won’t forget. Like a scene in the animated movie From Up On Poppy Hill, and a verse described in the Chinese Classic Poetry Shi-Jing “The young shoots of reeds are grey, The white dew looks like frost.” There must have been many love stories happened here.
The air felt fresh in the mountain top. Mixed with some light floral scents I believe must came from the Susuki.
I felt my mind and body were all refreshed and cleaned by the beautiful Susuki. It washed off all filthies from me, I felt like a little bird ready to fly.
