The Big Cedar tree ― 1,000 years old big tree towering at the Forest of Amagi ―

The Big Cedar tree of Shiranuta is chosen by the Foretry Angency as the “100 selections of giant trees of the forest.” Height: 45m Trunk lap: 816cm Age: 1,000 years old (estimate). This aged big tree is the finest cedar tree can be found at Mt. Amagi areas as well as the Izu Peninsula, there are many vertical lines in the trunk telling the long history of the past wind and rain experienced by the tree. The tree is called “Jiro Cedar” as to another tree called “Mount Amagi Taro Cedar”.
Getting There
It is 30 minutes by car from Katase-Shirata Station to the promenade entrance. It is a 20-minute walk from promenade entrance.
