A temple for remembering the love between Minamoto no Yoritomo and Pricess Yaehime
Shinjuin Temple was built in medieval period, for generations, priests of the temple continually built the temple and combined with other temples at the peripheral areas to form a large scale temple.
Passed the gate of the temple, there is a memorial hall for Princess Yaehime on the right-hand side.
According to the legend, Princess Yaehime come all the way across mountains from Ito to visit Hojo House to meet his lover Yoritomo, but ended up finding out Yoritomo’s heart had changed, she felt desperate, ended her own life by jumping off the pond of Shuju in front of the temple.
In from of the main building of the temple, there is a small ladder which was offered by local residents who hope the ladders wold have help the princess who fell the ponds.
Amida Nyorai Buddha daiosho Tower 1302 (0/1302), inscriptions, 1335 (0/1335), Ming treasure gabled hospital towers and stupa, 1363 (0/1363), inscriptions in the environment (both town designated cultural asset) is now obsolete.
