Museum exhibit the major works of Seikou Sawada (an artist, recipient of Order of Culture), his works cross every kind of art not just many wooden sculptures but drawing, calligraphy ink painting, ceramic art, a print, calligraphy and so on.
Masahiro Sawada (1894-1988)
Real name, Torakichi. A winner of an Order of Culture, artist, an honorary citizen of Atami City.
He grew up in the seaside of Atami, and made a decision to be a sculptor at the age of 19, studied under Zuiun Yamamoto who was a best disciple of Master Koun Takamura.
Starting from many wooden sculpture works, he created pieces of all genres of art such as paintings, pottery, prints and calligraphy until he died at 93 years old.
His energetic and lively works filled with feelings of life speak poetic and sentimental to the people.
