Speaking of summer, you gotta go to Beach! Here is basic data of Izu Beach for you beach lovers!
There are both large and small shores in Izu Peninsula along from Atami to Shimoda. All beaches are with their own characteristic. You can enjoy your beach life till your heart’s content.
I made a roundtrip to southernmost Shimoda!
Since it is difficult to cover all beaches in a short time some of the introductions here refer to local tourist association. Please understand.
1: Atami Sun Beach (report)
About 400m long, 60m width. It is the artificial beach of the atmosphere similar to the foreign luxury resort.
Getting There From Atami Station 5 minutes by bus for Atami Port. Get off at “Sun Beach” stop.

2: Usami Beach (report)
A long extensive sand beach spreading out more than 1km, Gulf of Sagami lays in front.

It is beautiful shallow shore which is one of the eminent beach in Izu.

7: Shirahama Ohama beach (report)
The longest beach in Izu with a beautiful sandy beach of 700m long .

8: Sotoura Beach (report)
In the quiet beach in the inlet, popular among women and families.

9: Kisami Ohama Beach (report)
It is a popular beach among surfers and the groups in regular environment.
Getting There From Izukyu-Shimoda Station, take a bus No.3 for Kissho-Ihama-Nakagi, or No.4 for Cape Iro-zaki Lighthouse, ten minutes ride. 15-minute walk from “Kisami” bus stop.

10 Shirahama Central Beach (Tourist Association):
It is a quiet beach where the families doing shellfish gathering.

11 Nabeta Beach (Tourist Association):
The nearest beach to the Shimoda downtown, it is a home beach for local children.
Getting There From Izukyu-Shimoda Station take bus No.3 for Kissho, Ihama, Nakagi, No.4 for Irozaki Lighthouse, get off at Nabeta Exit. 5 minute walk, or 20-minute walk from station.

12 Tatadohama Beach (Tourist Association):
It is particularly famous among marine sports people as a beautiful sand bar beach of 450m long.

It is a beach where there is the southern country mood in a row of cycad trees along the shore.

14: Toji Beach (Tourist Association)
Having the shoreline which has changed complicatedly by the rough sea, it is a less crowded beach.
