“Koshū no Kishi” (Naoki Prize winning novel) and “Bakin Takizawa (Eiji Yoshikawa literary prize) are representative works by Ms. Sonoko Sugimoto. Here it was built in 1977 by her. The name means Sonoko’s House in polite way.
Sugimoto used here at first as a villa, but moved into here in 1980. Her novels were written in this building for 15 years until 1995 when she moved to new home in the city.
The hall displays original works of Sugimoto and other authors related to Atami City, authors’ daily items.
Sugimoto was honored publicly as the second honorary citizen of Atami City in 1997, and xshe received the Order of Culture in 2002.
