Harukimichi and Shiawasemichi Cherry Blossom Festival 2015

Flowering season of cherry-blossom in Minami-Ashigara City starts from mid-March every year with a unique type of cherry tree called Harumeki-Zakura which has the earliest flowering season than any other type of cherries including the well-known cherry-blossom Someiyoshino. Harumeki-Zakura is a relevantly new type of cherry which was a breed improved cherry tree originated from the branch of the local cherry trees planted in the farm of Minami-Ashigara City, it was registered as a new type of cherry in March 2000.
It is considered a crossbreed cherry tree of Kanhi-Zakura and Minami-Zakura. It is designated as the symbolic cherry tree of Ashigara City.
Alongside the Karikawa River there is a promenade stretch for about 700 meters called “Harukimichi” and “Shiawasemichi” which is a famous spot for Harumeki-Zakura viewing. You can also enjoy the beautiful scenery of this flower at Fukuzawa Park in Kaisei-machi.
