The Place of Birth Bath of Hojo Masako, the so-called Priestess General

Many pregnant women visit here to pray for safe delivery of their babies.
Hojo Masako, the wife of Minamoto no Yoritomo, also known as the eldest daughter of Hojo Tokimasa was born at here in the year of 1157.
It was said the water of birth bath for Hojo Masako at her birth time was brought from this well. The palaces of Hojo tribe was located at the north foot area of Mt. Moriyama, the Horikoshi-Gosho Palace was constructed here later.
The water from this well was believed good to women of pregnancy.
In 1958, when Karino River was swamped by a powerful Typhoon, only this well remained safe water for the local people.
