With cheerful shouts of “yassa, mossa”
“Yassa Festival” that little children parade carrying mikoshi portable shrines and dancing is the Yugawara Spa’s greatest event.
“Yassa Festival” which is said to be started from “Kampei’s Dance” which Yugawara’s feudal lord “Kampei Doi Jiro” who played a big role for the revival of Genji clan and danced in order to settle worried people.
After Kamakura Shogunate establishment, Kampei which was highly esteemed his abilities was dispatched to Aki country (Hiroshima) for securing peace and order to the surrounding area of Seto Inland Sea, and again resulted in successful.
After his death, his people missed him of his good behavior the dance currently called Mihara Yassa was formed as remembrance of the memory of him.
“Kampei’s dance” was forgotten for a long time, however Mihara Yassa dance recalled Kampei and revived as “Yugawara Yassa Dance” among townsmans.
