Strawberry Picking at Izu-Atagawa Onsen
2015/02/16
From late January to February of each year is the strawberry season of Japan, strawberries grow at various places of Japan.
I have seen strawberry sold at supermarket in Japan, pack in small boxes, the price is very high. I always felt the price was beyond what I can afford. The price of strawberry is decided by its origins and qualities. The price of each box varies from 400 yen to 1,000 yen. The taste is just amazing.
My company had made me an arrangement of strawberry picking in Izu-Atagawa, I feel so happy about this.
I didn’t realize Ito was so far away that we had to drive for two hours to reach the place.
Thanks God, the weather was greater.
The weather is great, I was with my friend, musics filled in the car, there are beautiful sceneries waiting for us ahead. I just couldn’t be more happy.
I am not working now, I am enjoying a wonderful trip.
The destination of our trip is a well-known strawberry farm in Izu-Atagawa Onsen called Nakanishi Strawberry Farm. There are many strawberry farms in this area for us to choose from. Nakanishi Strawberry Farm, out destination is located in a remote area, it took us a long time to reach the farm.
The owner of the farm looks like an ordinary farmer. It is a small scale family-run strawberry farm. All the affairs including planting, managing, sales, customer picking up are all in the responsibility of family members.
We payed the tickets, received a small box from the owner which contains two cells, one is filled with sweet condensed milk and the other is blank for picking up strawberries.
The time limit is 30 minutes. However I don’t know how the time is counted, it seems that we can leave any time as we want.
Of course you don’t look cheap, for more than 30 minutes and you can’t eat.
There are two types of strawberry planted in Nakanishi Farm.
One is called “Akihime” which is a brand of Shizuoka Prefecture. It is large and taste sweet than a brand called “Nyohou”.
Another brand is called “Benihoppe” which is juicy and smells good.
Although I don’t know exactly the difference between this two types of strawberries, they all taste great, I assume they are all very good brands.
Strawberries are planted in large green houses. I was told that strawberries were originally planted on the ground but now planted on a waist-high shelf in order to make it more easy for people to pick up. So I don’t have to bend down, squat, can also be easily eaten strawberries!
My friend and I were very excited, decided to eat a lot.
I found a super large strawberry, it is so red in color looks so attractive.
Chinese people tend to eat strawberries without any sweeteners but Japanese people eat strawberries with dipped in milk and condensed milk together. I tried the Japanese way found it was really delicious. The sweetness of condensed milk and the sweetness of strawberry are not in combat but in harmony.
After ate a lot, we started taking a lot of pictures. Little strawberries looked so cute, they all stayed still for us to take pictures. Shed has bee have been flying around, sound of something sinister about panic, fear of being bitten.
Eat the last a little sick of it.
I think the most tasteful one is the first strawberry I picked up. Friends also said that, the first one taste so great that she was touched by it profoundly. I didn’t exaggerate, she was literally “touched” by the great taste.
Eating to the point of yesterday, are expected for a long time will not want to eat strawberries. But why do I now greedy.
