This long established shrine is a shrine of the Kanto Souchinju Hakone Gongen (Kanto and Hakone’s chief god) since the ancient time, it is good for get rid of the bad luck and bring good luck, road safety as well as good marriage.
In front of main shrine
The Hakone-jinjya Shrine is located at the top pilgrimage round of mountain worship of Japan. Saint Mangan received an oracle from the Hakone-Okami (Chief god of Hakone) through a dream while had traning in the mountain, and by the year of 757, the shrine held a Chinsai ceremony at the current location of the lakeside of Ashinoko. In 2007, the shrine’s 1250th anniversary of Chinza was held here.
Minamoto-no Yoritomo of the Kamakura period had deep faith in this shrine who created the manner of Nishomoude. From then, the Hakone-jinja shrine had long become a poignant shrine to the regent afterward such as Hojo tribe and Tokugawa Ieyasu, the General of Japan’s Sengoku period.
In the modern times, this shrine became a sacred place for the common people after the road condition of Hakone had been improved, the shrine’s chief god (Gongen sama) of Hakone is believed can help to get rid of the bad lucks as well as bring good ones. The Tukinami no Matsuri (Monthly Festival) is held at 1st and 15th every month, anyone can apply to participant.
