Yamakita Cherry Blossoms Festival
2016/04/12
Yamakita Cherry Blossoms Festival was held on 24 March to 10 April. During this period of time, roughly 130 Yoshino cherry trees planted along the JR Gotemba line Yamakita station bloom and form a tunnel of cherry blossoms over the train tracks.
A “Soran Yamakita Yosakoi Festival” was held on 27 March, and various events and performances were held on 2 April.
The greatest charm of this festival was the fact that the cherry blossoms trees lined both sides of the train track. Train lovers could take photos of the train along with the cherry blossoms.
Firstly, a look at the empty tracks.
After waiting for quite a long time, the Gotemba line trains finally arrived!
There was a decomissioned JNR Class D52 steam locomotive exhibited in the Yamakita Railway Park. Gotemba line used to run steam locomotives, and this was one of them.
This place provides a whole new kind of cherry blossoms viewing experience. Definitely one of my favourites.
