Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands
2016/04/04
Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands is home to 200 types of wetland plants, and as many as 1700 if including grassland, forest, highlands, and foreign plants. Different flowers bloom from the garden’s opening each year at the March till November.
Wooden plank walkways were a standard for wetland gardens. They brought out a certain beauty from the scenery, turning an ordinary walk into an adventure. Could be just me.
Featured plants had explanation boards. Two such plants were Lysichiton camtschatcensis (or white skunk cabbage), and daylily.
Daylilies bloom in June, but white skunk cabbages were in full bloom. Apparently there were 10,000 of these in the garden.
And here were everything else I spotted.
There was a small exhibition room near the entrance with plenty of information panels and a TV introducing the various seasonal flowers.
I love botanical gardens, so naturally I enjoyed this. The surrounding mountains made for beautiful sceneries, and that was a wonderful aspect of Hakone. Great for a leisurely stroll.
