In the warm night, festival car will fill in the Atami’s highway.
Festival car (dashi) competition!
Kogashi Matsuri – Festival Car Contest is a part of Kinomiya Shrine’s Festival.
The main attraction of this festival is the various design and ornament of traditional dashi (floats) from each neighborhood, and also omikoshi (portable shrine)!
Around 30 festival car (dashi) will gather at the highway and show off their best show. Everything will be made with detailed care of lightning angle, wood carving and decorating, representing the long history of the event. On top of the floats, there will be people playing Japanese traditional musical instruments such as gong, flute, and drums. The will proceed from each neighborhood and finally gather at Toukaigan (East Coast) venue for the final judging of the winner.
Omikoshi, or portable shrine is also the main attraction of the event.
There will be many omikoshi from Kinomiya Shrine march into the town too. They are Gohouren, Ranwakai, Souichikai, Izusansei-Kousei, Wakajishikai, Yuuwadoushikai, and Ookusuren.

For the matsuri, highway route 135 will be closed from 18:30. The festival car (dashi) will go to the judging venue in sequential order. After that the festival cars will go to the Omiya-no-Matsu front and take u-turn, then go back to each of their neighborhood.
For this event, all the people of Atami, adult or children will all be one in the festival spirit!
